Patrick Higgins || STEREO 2xC48
A1 STEREO
A2 Pointillist
A3 Estancia
STEREO is a three-part composition
written and recorded by in quadraphonic stereo by downtown composer/guitarist Patrick Higgins, formerly of Animal and currently of ZS. Making use of
extended techniques, time-shift and phase manipulations, as well as a custom-designed
digital delay interface, Higgins’ STEREO is
a work that both celebrates and disfigures the tradition of solo guitar
performance. Clocking in at 48 minutes, STEREO is
a must for fans of drone, post-minimalism, avant-garde, and uncompromising instrumental
works.
STEREO will be released on two
stereophonic cassettes designed to be played simultaneously on two independent
stereo systems or through a single quadraphonic receiver connected to two tape
decks. In the tradition of four channel stereo gear of the 70s (hyped in marketing
materials as the next logical step after stereo dominated mono) and presaging
the later dominance of home theaters and multi-channel setups, quadraphony —
the forefather of surround sound — is lovingly resurrected for this ambitious
and unusual release.
In addition to the double-cassette, each edition includes a multi-format digital download code that gives you access to both a standard stereo mp3 downmix of the composition for every-day use, plus a multi-channel FLAC for playback on your home theater, DTS-compliant system, car stereo, etc.

* Maze Mixtape Exclusive
This sprawling compilation, W+D's first, is an aural and aesthetic extension of The You Are Here Festival, an enormous indoor Maze installation and conceptual music festival organized this past summer at Secret Project Robot in Brooklyn and then again in early fall at Westgermany in Berlin. Featuring contributions from 22 artists who performed in the Brooklyn Maze, this massively ambitious 92-minute tape skitters relentlessly among a wide range of styles and genres, from local underground hip-hop to noise-dub, balls out rock 'n' roll to to genre unnamable.
Going beyond simply featuring artists who played in the Maze, the tape also evokes the visual experience of being inside of the Maze installation with its multiple overlapping layers of simple line art creating a depth-perception-confounding, three-dimensional web. Packed with exclusive tracks, 19 in total, this unique release is a must-have for fans of the compellingly weird and unexpectedly accessible.
As all of the tape media is transparent, each tape is supplemented with a Digital Download Postcard containing the tracklisting, release notes, and download code. Please view the options below when making your selection:

Listening to Veils is like dropping the needle of the groove of your favorite record, only to find that the songs you knew have been replaced, but strangely, it feels just as much like home. Says Guilty Ghosts' Tristan O'Donnell, "a veil in most religions signifies a commitment to, and a representation of, a belief or an ideal. It is used to protect what is sacred, and symbolize personal devotion — a shield, and a badge. These songs are an expression of that tension." From the aptly-named "Late Night Voyages," perfect for a night drive through urban canyons and dead-dark rural backroads, to the distorted slow-build of "Great Malevolent Withholder," Veils' beautiful songcraft lodges itself in your psyche, ready to emerge as the sun recedes and the gloaming creeps.

The latest from Brooklyn's prolific-to-the-point-of-madness Sam Hillmer, SHRINE FLU spreads slabs of droning, meditative, pitch-shifted sax thickly over other-worldly-reverb'd scrapes, echoes, and sighs. Picking up where DT debut Himalayan Appalachia left off, SHRINE FLU concentrates its tiptoeing dystopian atmospherics into half the time with twice the punch. Described by Hillmer as "the part of the Venn diagram representing our collective psyche where spiritual paranoia & materialism overlap with political and economic paranoia & materialism," SHRINE FLU is the perfect complement to a 21st century drowning in post-post-modern concepts of self, cultural memes that provide a conceptual framework for endless war, and a historically unprecedented sociopolitical death drive. The next time you flip on CNBC and hear some talking head pontificating about an economy predicated on "creative destruction," take it as another sign of the SHRINE FLU pandemic!

Tracklist is too long to post here...32 tracks split evenly across each side!
"Same Same but Different," the familiar phrase heard throughout south east Asia, a perfect description to characterize Onra’s latest project, a follow up to his 2007 LP - Chinoiseries. So almost five years later, here we go back on the trail of another Asian beat journey with 32 Hip-Hop instrumentals inspired by Chinese and Vietnamese music. A lot has happened in between: The Big Payback with Byron the Aquarius, a beats LP 1.0.8 plus 2010’s acclaimed boogie tinged hip hop LP Long Distance, while along the way he’s revisited South East Asia on a few occasions adding to his Asian record stack on each occasion. The exotic, mysterious pop and folk Chinese records of the 60s and 70s, with their epic operatic and orchestral feel, and sealed from the Western counter culture rumblings of the time, not to mention alive with vintage vinyl hiss and crackle, may not seem the easiest source material to work with — but after hermetically sealing himself in his Parisian beat cave, Onra has come with a more than worthy return for all the time and money spent in the vinyl basements and backrooms of the Far East. There's ample variation but a coherent whole, from the more electronic feel of "A New Dynasty" and "All Night," to the soundtrack vibe of "Mai's Theme" and "Fight Or Die," and the straight beat sound of "No Matter What" and "Remember The Name" and he's even found some breaks! Inspired by the idea of the LP as a sequence of film scenes, this intense burst of beats and distinct vibes form an accomplished rounded full length.

Nine blistering cuts of surf-filtered garage punk from Costa Mesa rockers TRMRS! Swaggering basslines and healthy doses psychedelic guitar scuzz fill out chugging, chaotic slabs of pop that have earned TRMRS deserved comparisons to the likes of Ty Segall, Night Beats, Audacity, Sic Alps, and Bass Drum of Death. Dead Beat Records sez "Kinda like Rocket From The Tombs covering the Sonics with Dick Dale shreddin' some wacked out, feel good surfy jams at an all night rager on the beach." Blazing!

11 pop punk cuts straight outta Portland! Here's what Robert Smith (no, not that one) has to say: I saw them all the time for a couple of weeks, it was the damndest thing. Eating a humble hangover omelette at 3 PM, I'd look out of the cafe window, or down the block as I retied my shoe, and I'd see these two miscreants sauntering by all a-deck in polka dots and pointy shoes with looks of Baltic Lostness on their faces, among all the besweatervested, bearded, bicycling arrogant semi-youths of Hawthorne Blvd. Then I saw them, Stevie and Nico, at an art gallery show where a chubby naked guy with a rabbit mask and a Flying V was having his way with us. I was there with my roommate, and we asked them if they wanted to play at this show we were having at the uh Dead End House (aptly named, RIP). We figured there were probably and band. They were, and they did. It was great. "GREAT SCOTT! PEOPLE PLAY THIS STUFF?" Then they left the country for a while, came back, and I joined the band on lead guitar, along with Patrick Mackenzie on drums. It's been about two months. The recordings herein were made before that, in their motherland, the great Midwest, the bulk of them coming from an album recorded in 3 days on Dexedrine in a Saint Louis bar.
